Structure and variants

In a classic lid-and-base box, the lid fits over the base. Height and overlap can be adapted to the product, desired appearance and handling. Depending on the structure, the parts are glued, slotted together or erected.

There are numerous variants between a simple folding carton and an elaborate presentation solution. What matters is how the product is inserted, removed, transported and, where applicable, opened repeatedly.

Fit and material are decisive

The lid and base must fit together securely without jamming or being too loose. Board thickness, grain direction, creasing, coating and manufacturing tolerances influence this fit.

• Define internal dimensions and the necessary clearance
• Consider product weight and stacking load
• Specify opening resistance and the desired feel
• Integrate inserts or fixing features into the structure
• Coordinate printing and finishing across both parts

Check suitability using a sample

A physical sample is particularly important for products with tight tolerances or high-quality surfaces. It shows whether fit, removal and appearance meet the requirements.
