Not every carton is dangerous goods packaging

Dangerous goods are classified according to their properties. This determines requirements for the permitted packaging and mode of transport. A UN marking may only be used within the scope of the associated design-type approval and specification.

Testing relates to the defined combination of outer packaging, contents or inner packagings, maximum masses and closure. Replacing individual components can affect whether the combination is permitted.

Checks before dispatch

Responsibility for classification and compliant shipping lies with the shipper. The following overview does not replace a dangerous goods regulatory assessment, but it helps clarify the project:

• Clarify the UN number, substance classification and packing group
• Determine the mode of transport and the regulations currently applicable
• Check the approved packaging design type and inner packagings
• Follow the prescribed closure method exactly
• Check markings, labels and documents
• Rule out damage or unauthorised reuse
