Packaging and equipment form a system
A carton may work perfectly well by hand yet still cause difficulties on an automatic line. The magazine, suction cups, guides, cycle rate and closing station each impose their own requirements. Machine information and, where possible, reference samples therefore belong in the brief.
Influencing factors for solid board
Bending stiffness, thickness, grain direction and surface properties affect picking and erection. The cutting outline and crease geometry determine how precisely flaps and panels move. Gluing, flatness and storage climate can also affect running behaviour.
- Dimensions and tolerances of the structure
- Crease depth, crease width and restoring force
- Surface friction and adhesion
- Quality and position of the glue seams
- Humidity, temperature and conditioning
Investigate interruptions systematically
When feeding or erection problems occur, the material should not be changed hastily as the only response. Documented fault patterns, batch information, machine settings and affected samples are helpful. They make it possible to distinguish whether the cause lies in the structure, blank, climate, equipment or their interaction.
HvC supports the technical coordination of the folding carton and can first produce samples of proposed changes. Final suitability is assessed on the customer's specific equipment under realistic conditions.
